So why boxes?
That is a question I hear more often than one would think. Luckily, I have never had a problem answering that question ever since I created my first box in 2000. I was instantly hooked. I researched and collected any information I could find on box making, from Egyptian times to the present. I follow the inspiring works of notable box makers such as Peter Lloyd, Andrew Crawford and Phil Weber. I have a collection of books on the subject that will soon require me to purchase a larger home. So the answer to why boxes? Well, that is a question that has multiple answers. To me, boxes are an extremely personal container. We use them to hold our history, secrets, and memories. They are time capsules to our families that can be handed down from generation to generation. They are a sculptural art form that can be created to reflect emotion, movement, or a point in time. They are an art form that is crafted using some of the most spectacular material that only Mother Nature could provide. These are the reasons I fell in love with box making.
