"X-Ray"
I wanted a way to show that my boxes had heart compared to other boxes out there. What better way than to perform an “X-Ray”. From its bone skeleton to its heart
pumping through stainless steel arteries and veins…this box is all heart!
The skeleton is crafted out of Curly Maple. I used blind dovetail joints to hold it all together. The legs were hand carved after doing
anatomy studies of femurs.
The heart is crafted out of Redheart and the internal drawer out of curly maple. A boxjoint was used for the drawer construction. The
stainless steel "veins" actually act to strengthen the joint.
Polished stainless steel pipe was used as the main arteries on top of the heart. The inside of the arteries are painted a high gloss red. Polished stainless steel rod was used as veins to "float" the heart and create a mount for the legs.
"X-ray" was finished with three soakings of Danish Oil. The heart received a high gloss buffing and the skeleton was finished in a satin
wax.
Overall dimensions are 17" x 5.75" x 8". Internal drawer dimensions are 2.875" x 2.3" x 1".
"X-Ray" received an Honorable Mention in the 35th Annual Box & Vessel Show
